Every day in Iceland offered up a new an exciting adventure. The sky was never anything short of dramatic due to the constantly changing weather, and the 23 hours of daylight. When we got to the southern part of the country, we saw a glacier flow off in the distance, and since we had a 4×4, we decided to drive along an unmarked gravel road that seemed to head in that direction. We drove across moss covered lava fields for about three kilometers before settling on a place to make camp for the night. That is the beautiful thing about Iceland. Nearly everywhere is open to camping, and so much of the country is left wild and untouched. If you ever get the chance to camp in a lava field below a glacier, do yourself a favor and do so!
