While I was traveling throughout Iceland last year, there were many songs playing on the car radio, and many of them trigger certain memories, and mental images. Whenever I hear Yellow Light by Of Monsters and Men, my mind drifts to The dreamy midnight sun and how it danced around the dramatic landscape of the Northwestern Fjords. There is something magical about the instrumental portion of that song that puts my memories of Iceland into a dreamlike state. This particular photo was taken near Patreksfjörður in the late evening. This was the lowest the sun would get in the sky for the entirety of the trip, it was surreal.

I don’t really know the story behind the ship that is beached along the fjord, but it bears the marking “BA 64”.  As I explored the perimeter of the ship, I imagined an intense storm in which Icelandic fishermen battled the tumultuous seas through thick fog, which landed them in this predicament.

Workflow: In Lightroom, I used a graduated brush to fine tune the color temperature of the sky so that the warmth of the midnight sun that I remember was not overdone and I fine tuned the look of the clouds using an adjustment brush. I then brought the image into Color Efex Pro 4 to soften the image while warming it a bit more with a combination of  modified skylight and sunlight filters.
