When I planned my trip to the American Southwest, I only briefly considered coming here, but after actually arriving, I am so glad I did. Much like the Grand Canyon a bit further down the river, the magnitude of this place cannot be properly represented in a photograph.
I arrived at the parking lot for Horseshoe Bend about an hour and a half before sunset, and made the 3/4 mile walk down to the overlook. I wasn’t surprised to see people everywhere, the weather after all, was nearly perfect. I sat down at the edge of the cliff with my feet dangling a thousand feet above the Colorado river and waited patiently for that beautiful golden light that us photographers love so much. I knew I wasn’t going to capture an angle that hadn’t been captured before, but I knew that I was going to recreate what I saw in my mind. This photo represents what I remember seeing that day in Arizona. Enjoy!
