Let me preface this by saying, although he survived that fall, the extent of his injury is not known yet. This is a reminder to us all of the risks we assume when Jumping off a bridge, dropping into a powder bowl or climbing a rock face. Risk assessment is an important part of any activity and should not be taken lightly.
Bridge day is an annual event held at the New River Gorge near Fayetteville, West Virgina. This year it was on Saturday October 15th. Bridge day is the only time of the year where BASE jumping and wing suit flying is legal at the bridge. Every year thousands of people come to this event to watch the so called daredevils hurl themselves off of the bridge that rises around 875 feet from the surface of the water.
This year while doing a wing suit flight, Christopher Brewer’s chute failed to open. He attempted to pull of out of his dive, but it is estimated that he still hit the water at over 60 mph. While he did survive, he is said to have suffered a fractured pelvis, and other serious injury. Our thoughts go out to Christopher and is family and we hope that he fully recovers from this accident.
So terrible, my thoughts are with him.
Holy crap! I didn’t hear about this.
Yea man, pretty crazy stuff. I haven’t heard how he is doing. I need to check.
glad he surived, the wingsuit slowing him and the water impact ( instead of land) saved his life… i really respect these wingsuit base jumpers, they have balls of steel
