When camping during the colder months of the year, keeping warm is a big deal. A cold, uncomfortable night can easily send even the most seasoned outdoorsy folks packing for the car. That is why it is important to have a adequately warm sleeping bag for your chosen area, season and activity.

The Mountain Hardwear Lamina 0 is a synthetic mummy style sleeping bag rated for 0°F. This bag is stuffed with Thermic Micro synthetic fill, which, as advertised, is quite lofty, warm, and compressible. The shell is constructed with 40 denier ripstop nylon and is treated with DWR to repel water. When the Lamina 0 was put to the test in a mild rain, it repelled the rain with no issue. The water beaded up as you would expect with DWR and the inside of the bag stayed dry and warm.

The inside of this bag is lined with 40 denier Polyester Taffeta fabric. This silk-like fabric allows for comfortable non-restricted movement while inside the bag. Both the draft collar and the hood have draw strings which enable you to cinch them down, trapping heat. The draft collar also has a strip of velcro on it to further prevent the loss of warmth.

The Lamina 0 unzipped

To help you stow personal items, Mountain Hardwear included both and internal and external pockets on the Lamina 0. The external zipper pocket is quite small and provides only enough room for a small headlamp. The internal pocket does not have a zipper, but is big enough for a wallet or smartphone.

The full length #8 zipper on the Lamina 0 allows for easy venting of excess heat thanks to its ability to zip from both ends of the bag. Though the zipper on this bag is quite heavy duty, it does have a tendency to “eat” the flap adjacent to the zipper while zipping it shut from the inside. This made for some frustration before going to bed.

The Lamina 0 is available in short, regular and long sizes to accommodate various heights. Each offering is also available with a left or right hand zipper as well. The inside lengths are offset by six inches for each bag. Short being 72 inches, regular being 78 inches, and long being 84 inches. The average weight of this bag is a bit on the heavy side at 3 lbs 12oz, but being able pack this down to basketball size still makes it a great choice for backpacking in colder temps.

Good loft, an aesthetically pleasing shell, and small pack down size make the Lamina 0 a great piece of sleeping gear. Though it is a bit on the heavy side and there were some issues with zipper snag, it did not detract from the overall sleeping experience. The Mountain Hardwear Lamina 0 is available now from most gear retailers and sells for around $185.
