Last June, after a disappointing shutdown by Mount Hood, we departed Government Camp Oregon, and headed south into California. We figured if Hood was going to shut us down, we still had to climb a mountain, it was in our blood, it was what we came so many miles to do. Shasta had been an optional part of our game plan since the beginning so that was are target. We planned to make a two day summit big via Avalanche Gulch. We climbed to 9000 feet the first night then made our summit bid early the next morning. The weather could not have been more perfect. Temps were manageable, and the sky was bluebird.
