The weather had been less than perfect all day and I was bummed that I might not get an opportunity to photograph the Falls as I had hoped, but sometimes these things surprise you. Right before sunset, we walked out of the Niagara Falls Visitor Center after having some coffee from Tim Hortons(they make a pretty mean chai latte!) and went up to the railing overlooking the rim of Horseshoe Falls and caught a glimpse of the mist rolling off of the turbulent water below. The clouds had broken just enough to offer us a orange glow as the sun set behind the falls. Not too bad of a deal. After that, we packed it in and made our way onward to Toronto.
Behind The Scenes
Camera: Canon EOS 60D
Lens: Tokina 11-16mm
Focal Length: 11mm
ISO: 160
Aperture: f/22
Shutter Speed: 1/5th
The Tools: 15 Inch Macbook Pro
Location: Horseshoe Falls – Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada.
Other Good Stuff: Lightroom 5, Nik Color Efex Pro 4, Nik Dfine2
Workflow: I originally bracketed this shot for an HDR, but once I got the sequence into Lightroom, I realized I had all the dynamic range I wanted in one of the shots, so I chose to work on that one. I adjusted color temperature and exposure in Lightroom, then moved the shot to Nik Color Efex Pro 4 to do some color correction and detail enhancement. I finally pulled the shot into Nik Dfine 2 to clean up a bit of noise that was lingering in the shot.
