Daily Photo – On A Long And Lonesome Highway
After an epic and enjoyable summit of Mount Rainier and a restful night in Portland, Oregon, I continued my 5 week pilgrimage south. This time I departed for the day with an unexpected goal in mind, that goal was Oregon’s Crater Lake National Park. The deeper I drove into the heart of Oregon, the moreĀ apparent the volcanic history of the Pacific Northwest became. Lush green coniferous forest and jagged volcanic peaks abound. As I passed the trailhead to the Iconic Pacific Crest Trail, my little Suzuki Grand Vitara chugged upward toward Willamette Pass and my last obstacle before my descent towards the Dalles-California Highway and Crater Lake.
Eyes wide open with beautiful scenery, the likes of which I had seen I entered the bounds of Crater Lake National Park. Unable to drive any further for fear of crashing my little SUV, I stopped along the road leading deeper into the park to take it all in and snap a few photos. I had no idea what beauty was to come.
