One of my favorite quick trips this Summer was to Coastal Maine. One of my outdoor pursuits is rock climbing, and when I did my homework on Acadia National Park, I found all kinds of fun stuff. In addition to rock climb style hikes like the Precipice and Beehive trails, there is a coastal climbing area called Otter Cliffs. This area is interesting because climbing there is reliant of the tides. While you can climb when the tide is high, climbing during low tide allows you to rappel right onto a rock ledge and enjoy and up close experience with the Atlantic ocean.
We spent the middle of the day playing on a few top rope routes at Otter Cliff while talking with other climbers and enjoying the summer day. While lounging on the rocks below the cliff, I took this photo of a girl climbing a route near us. What a beautiful place to climb and enjoy the outdoors!
Side note:
If you get a chance to spend some time in the town of Bar Harbor, make sure you check out the two local brew pubs: Atlantic Brewing Company, and Bar Harbor Brewing Co. In addition to great beer, Atlantic Brewing Company has some pretty amazing Barbecue on site.
