It has been nearly two years since I climbed to the summit of Mount Rainier in Washington, but I think about it all the time. It was one of the proudest moments of my life and through that experience I met a lot of great people, all with different reasons for being there.
In this photo, two climbers from my party can be seen making their way across the crater that is the top of Mount Rainier. Once you reach the crater rim, you are not actually on the true summit yet. You need to cross the crater to reach Columbia Crest, which is the true highest point in the state of Washington.
