Denali: a Climber’s Log – Preview

By - Bill Urbanski Summer is right around the corner here at CTS Base Camp in Pennsylvania.  This means hiking in shorts, rock climbing outdoors, and even the occasional simple pleasure of a dip in the backyard pool.  But my mind is elsewhere.  My mind is on snow, glaciers, and mountaineering. For the

Crossing To The West… Again!

Count Down! T-Minus 14 days and counting until I embark on yet another cross country adventure. This time, I will be heading first to my very own state capitol in Harrisburg, PA to add another photograph to my state capitol project, then I will be heading west, hopefully grabbing a few state capitol buildings along

Sunrise At Columbia Crest

Daily Photo - Sunrise At Columbia Crest After hours and hours of marching up the glaciated slopes of Mount Rainier, we had arrived at the crater rim. In total darkness we now sat within the caldera of an active stratovolcano. Still glowing with the excitement of a kid on Christmas, I through my down jacket

Purple Magic Skyline

Daily Photo: Purple Magic Skyline Seattle is one of those places I dreamed of for many years, but for one reason or another, I just couldn't get out there. That was, until last year. I had signed up to do a Summit For Someone climb of Mount Rainier. Rainier was the driving force behind my

I craved Rainier for many years, and subsequently attained it's coveted Columbia Crest in August of this year. I have provided a few of my favorite shots from this beauty of a mountain. Enjoy!

Grand Teton Report

MOOSE, Wyoming – The proposed climbing schedule was, in retrospect, a little nuts:  four sea-levelers trying to run up the Grand Teton in a day, unguided, and with no prior experience on the mountain.  The team got close, but ultimately we did not reach the summit. We bailed at 13,000 feet at the
