Daily Photo – The Yard

It was early summer and I was looking for something new and exciting to photograph in my locale of Northeastern, PA. For one reason or another I had never been to the Steamtown National Historic site, even though it had been within a 30 minute drive of me all my life. So as any explorer would do, I set out for a new adventure. I was immediately enthralled by all of the history around me. I had been near trains all my life, but to get up close and personal with some of the steam engines that helped establish this country was an incredible experience.

I spent several hours exploring the site and taking photos of everything. I couldn’t help but imagine how places like this looked during their hay day. Passenger and freight trains alike had a car for everything. From mail cars to dinning cars, sleeping cars, you name it, it was there. There is so much romanticism to the rail age I feel, and I needed to capture and represent that the best I could.
