As I gear up for any trip, my plans seem to fall together organically. I start out with the big picture, and everything else seems to fall in place. My upcoming late September trip to Utah is no exception. When I started thinking about where I wanted to head next, the only thing I really had decided was that I needed to get back to Utah. With this in mind, I found a cheap flight into Las Vegas on Kayak.com

With Vegas selected as my entry point, I am in position to visit places like Zion, Bryce, and Canyonlands National Parks, but that is only the tip of the Iceberg. I have plans for a 1300 mile circuit that will cover portions of Nevada, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona. This gives me the opportunity to capture some of America’s most picturesque landscapes, as well as sets me up to try to photograph some rock climbing and mountain biking, both of which are very prevalent activities in the area.

Utah Trip Route

As of right now, my itinerary has me getting into Vegas on Friday, September 2oth. I will spend the night there, then head north east in the morning to Zion National Park where I hope to rappel into some slot canyons and do some exploring with my camera. If I am lucky, I’ll be able to grab a tent site at either Watchman or South Campground and get a nights rest so I can get up early and shoot some sunrise shots in the park. From Zion I will make a stop in Bryce Canyon the following day and do some more exploring. The length of my stay at each stop will depend heavily upon weather and camping availability. Some of my planned stops include:

  • Zion Canyon National Park
  • Bryce Canyon National Park
  • Arches Nation Park
  • Moab
  • Canyonlands National Park
  • Four Corners Monument
  • Grand Canyon National Park
  • Antelope Canyon

This list is definately subject to change, but I think it is a pretty solid start to this little journey. Did I miss anything exciting in the area? Let me know, I’d love your input.
