I am not a huge fan of typical beach trips, but when I can go after the normal crazy hours of the day I jump on the opportunity. Back in July I was in Rehoboth Beach Delaware to do some cycling and of course I made sure to work some photography into the mix.

The first evening I was there I took a walk down to the beach and ran into a group of folks skimboarding. I had never experienced skimboarding at this level so I was drawn in. They were all some talented and enthusiastic about an evening on the water. I spent at least two hours watching and photographing as they took pass after pass at the surf. As one of the girls was walking back from a run, I caught this photo of her watching as one of her friends caught a wave.

Behind The Scenes

Camera: Canon EOS 6D
Lens: 24-105L
Focal Length: 105mm
ISO:
800
Aperture: f/4
Shutter Speed: 1/1000th
The Tools: 15 Inch Macbook Pro
Location: Delaware Seashore State Park – Rehoboth Beach, Delaware
Other Good Stuff: Lightroom 5,  Nik Color Efex Pro 4

Workflow: This was shot right around sunset to take advantage of the golden light. In Lightroom, I adjusted the levels and cropped the photo to create a landscape shot from the original portrait orientation. I did a majority of the color toning right in Lightroom. I used the split toning drop down to amplify the gold and blue tones in the photo, then brought it into Color Efex Pro 4 to add subtle vignette and warm the photo up slightly.
